My role during lockdown changed as the needs of the County were very different. We recognised that units would need support to remain open throughout the pandemic and beyond. Our targets were changed to supporting units through grants, recruitment resources, activity packs, trainings and fundraising support. I sent out a survey at the end of September to all unit contacts with 88 responses from across the county indicating what support if any was needed. This was a great way for me to then target specific support to units and offer general support in the form of recruitment resources, signposting to grants and offering gift aid and risk assessment trainings out to all on the Facebook page without breaking any GDPR rules.

Space to Grow Together was a joint project with the Scout Association to
make sure that even more young people had access to the skills and fun
that we offer.
An incredible £2.4million was secured from Pears Foundation, #iwill, the
National Lottery Community Fund and the Department for Culture, Media
and Sport to fund the project.
As a Growth and Communities Coordinator, I had the opportunity to work
with Manchester, Stockport, and Lancs SE. My target was to open 16 new
units, recruit 48 volunteers, and create 240 spaces for girls. My role
involved empowering current leaders to be able to create amazing
opportunities while giving new volunteers the confidence they need to
open new units and start their Girlguiding journey.

For Pancake Day 2021 I ran a series of pancake challenges for 26th Oldham Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers. From pancake world records to types of pancakes, we learnt some interesting facts.
We ate homemade pancakes over Zoom whilst completing ‘match the leader to their pancake topping’ as well as telling a story together about pancakes.
Things got a little silly whilst coming up with the most obscure pancake toppings, from custard and ketchup, marshmallows, and Yorkshire puddings, to jelly or toothpaste!
And to top it all off; one of our leaders doesn’t like pancakes!!!

Fab zoom session with the 22nd/44th Rochdale rainbows and 43rd Rochdale brownies on relaxation and a little bit of mindfulness. The girls learned some breathing exercises, tried yoga (yes I did nearly fall over, I’m not cut out for yoga) and made their own worry monster.

21st Oldham Rangers had a lovely night making mini quiches…we were still in shock that they wanted to do something ‘savoury’ for a change & loved watching them washing their own pots at home…who knew?

As a result of our annual Christmas night out being cancelled, Oldham West Division decided to do a virtual Christmas Night In. A fun evening filled with a quiz and daft games, enjoyed by all. With categories for music, trivia and guess the celebrity baby photos (with the Division team’s too) the quiz was complete. Games such as Dingbats, Toilet Roll re-rolling and, sliding a chocolate biscuit were done to add some madness. A fantastic night!

21st Oldham Rangers virtual cooking gingerbread. Does anyone else enjoy just clearing up after yourself rather than 20 Rangers or Guides?
