Media & Communications

I am first and foremost a Ranger Leader. The Ranger group I lead (Tottington Rangers) is the unit where I was myself a ranger. I began my Leadership Qualification whilst a member of this unit but worked with a guide unit in Ramsbottom for two years until I gained my qualification. I have been a member of the Lancs SE county team in many guises over the years including DofE Adviser, Ranger Adviser, Ranger Camps and Holidays Adviser, Senior Section Adviser, County Secretary and now Chair of Media & Communications, which was right out of my comfort zone but I am so enjoying the challenge of learning so many different media skills (which helps me keep up with my rangers and my children!). I have also held a five year role as NW Region Senior Section Adviser. I have Senior Section through me like a stick of rock! I just love this challenging age group. I have been married to John for 24 years and we have a daughter, Aimee, who is currently also one of my rangers, and a son, Adam. We own a dizzy flatcoated retriever called Mila who is my third child! I work as a PA at a chartered accountancy firm in Manchester, and have clocked up 32 years with the firm. I think you could definitely describe me as committed.

I have been involved in guiding for over 60 years, starting as a guide at 10, then a ranger, brownie guider, district secretary, district, division and county commissioner. I am very proud to hold the Queen’s Guide Award and to have attended the 1957 World Camp in Windsor Great Park representing our county (South East Lancashire as it was then).

I am a retired teacher with 3 sons, 1 daughter and 9 grandchildren. I am pleased to say that in my family there are 2 brownie leaders, 2 rainbow leaders and 1 young leader, 1 guide and 1 brownie all involved in local guiding as well as myself. So as you would expect guiding plays a big part in our lives.
