*Exclusive gig – Guides and volunteers wowed by Tinie Tempah, Pixie Lott and more*

Guides from across the County had a day to remember as they headed to the Liverpool Echo Arena on Saturday 31 May to see a stellar pop line-up perform at Girlguiding’s BIG GIG 2014.

The girls and volunteer Leaders enjoyed an extra special BIG GIG in a landmark year for Girlguiding as everyone celebrates the 100th birthday of Brownies, Girlguiding’s most iconic section.

Guides were thrilled to see some of their favourite pop acts at the girl-only gig, including Tinie Tempah, Pixie Lott, Lawson, Elyar Fox and Leah McFall, star of The Voice 2013. Joined by 9,000 other Girlguiding members from across the UK, some of the girls made it a day to remember by making their Guide Promise at the event!

Molly Wainwright, aged 11, from 25th Bury Guides said: “The Big Gig was an amazing event for all the Guides. The line up was brilliant and included big stars! The atmosphere was electric and there were lots of bright lights and screaming! The thing I enjoyed the most was the songs because I’ve never heard anyone play live before – it was awesome!

Drew Mason, aged 11, of 14th Oldham Guides said: “It was the first gig I’ve ever been to and I loved it, especially because I was with all my Guide friends and I can’t wait for the next one.”

14th Bury’s Young Leader, Hannah Jackson aged 16 added: It was the best day ever! Seeing the new Guides making their Promise here was great too – it’s a great adventure for them as they haven’t been to a huge gig like this before!”

None of this would have been possible without the volunteer leaders. Fiona Bradshaw, a Leader from Bury, said: “We had an awesome day in Liverpool. We have lots of new Guides and it was their first experience of a concert. Two of them made their Promise so it was really special. We’ve had great feedback from the girls, which makes volunteering worthwhile!”

Another leader, Zoe Mason from Oldham added: “It’s a great day for Leaders too – everything the girls experience, we experience – and who doesn’t love a good concert? We were on our feet for Tinie Tempah! Girlguiding needs more volunteers to give many other girls these great opportunities!”

In 2014, hundreds of thousands of Girlguiding members from all over the UK are taking part in events like the BIG GIG to mark the 100th birthday of Brownies – and Guides in Lancashire South East are no exception.
