Members of 32nd Rochdale Guides are celebrating after receiving the highest accolade for Guides – the Baden-Powell Challenge Award.

Rebecca Denham (15), Hannah Basquill (16), Mia Beresford-Carter (16), Lauren Powell (14) and Megan Callaghan (15) all from Rochdale, received the award from Michelle Newell, District Commissioner on Wednesday at their meeting place

The Guides completed a range of exciting activities to achieve the award, including helping for 12 weeks at a local Rainbow or Brownie Unit, organising a trip to a pop concert and writing a review, volunteering to help in the gardens at Springhill Hospice, and completing a First Aid Course. At the end of the Challenge the Guides’ final task is take part in a residential weekend called the Baden-Powell Adventure – and it’s just that – a fantastic adventure in celebration of all that the girls have achieved.

Rebecca said: “I am very happy to have achieved my Baden-Powell Award as I worked so hard for it! I had a great time completing it, learning new skills I will never forget. I enjoyed the weekend away at the Youth Hostel in Manchester the most after I had completed all the clauses.

Group Leader, Leanne Chorlton said:  “I’m very proud of the girls for completing their Baden-Powell Award. This marks the end of 12 months effort and dedication, and is something they can look back on with pride for years to come.”

The girls have now moved onto the next stage of Guiding, into The Senior Section as Young Leaders at local Rainbow and Brownie Units, and Rangers where a world of fantastic opportunities awaits them!
